About the Event

This class is structured as a Ballet class, warming up and going through each body parts for the first half of the class before moving across the floor.The movements and the physicality is completely different to Ballet. Coordination, details in the arms and fingers, rhythm , placement and stamina are all part and main aspects of the class. Being versatile is key, the class will bring you in different worlds such as release, urban influences, isolation, with a choreographic aspect and a huge attention to phrasing and details.

Jason Mabana is a Belgian choreographer based in London. He trained at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance Ba(Hons) and The London Contemporary Dance School . As a dancer, Jason worked for Akram Khan Company, Shobana Jeyasingh, Wayne McGregor and Candoco Dance Company. As well as choreographing for his own company ‘Jason Mabana Dance’, he made works for international renowned companies such as Black Box Dance Company in Denmark, Conny Janssen Danst in The Netherlands, The Hummerlinck Stuurman Theatre Company, Hamburg Contemporary Dance Company. He will choreograph for FDR Dance in Mexico this summer. Jason has been nominated for Best Choreography of 2018 in Denmark for his work ‘No Sex’, and has been nominated for The Asian Arts Awards and The Amnesty International Freedom Of Speech Awards for his work ‘Requiem For Aleppo’. Jason is one of the contemporary teachers at The Royal Ballet School in London but also guest teaches at the Rambert School, The University Of The Arts in Amsterdam, Balettakademien in Stockholm, Spinoff,PERA in Cyprus, and more.
